Welcome to the Drama department. Drama is taught from nursery through to GCSE and a drama club is held twice a week after school for the senior girls. Our girls not only act but also receive training in stage management, scenery, props, lighting and sound. The girls also have the opportunity of Speech and Drama lessons and take LAMDA examinations. The Infant and Junior Departments put on concerts at the end of each term which feature drama as well as music. The senior girls put on a Christmas production and the juniors and seniors perform in our annual Music and Drama Festival at the Watersmeet Theatre in Rickmansworth. Last year we were pleased to welcome a member of the cast of the West End production of ‘The Lion King' to take an assembly and run a drama workshop for the girls.
Recent Christmas productions have included ‘Honk', based on the story of the Ugly Duckling, ‘Bugsy Malone', ‘A Christmas Carol', ‘Little Shop of Horrors' and ‘Babes in Arms'. This year Mr Kesselman and Mr de Sousa are writing their own Christmas musical with the girls' help entitled (at the moment!) ‘The Magic Toybox'
To enhance the teaching of Drama, the girls regularly attend productions, ranging from the Christmas pantomime at the Watford Palace Theatre for our infants and juniors to ‘Woman in Black' for our senior girls. They also regularly visit the Globe Theatre for workshops with the actors and to watch productions of Shakespeare.
Ballet and tap classes are held at break and after school. Dance plays an important part in our end of term concerts and in 2006 tap, ballet and street dance were an integral part of our Music and Drama production at the Watersmeet Theatre. Street dance is very popular with girls of all ages, with the older girls performing in street dance showcases and at public events such as the opening of Wembley Stadium.
