This is set on an increasing scale throughout the school. In the Nursery, the children may be asked to bring an item into school which supports the topic they are studying. Children who are ready to start reading may bring home books to share with their parents.
In the Infant Department, homework is set on an increasing scale, with emphasis on Mathematics and English. We ask parents to listen to and help with reading at home.
In the Junior Department is intended, the emphasis continues to be on English and Mathematics. All girls receive a homework diary and timetable. Homework increases from 20 minutes an evening in Year 3 to an hour an evening in Year 6. The girls are also expected to spend time reading for pleasure. We ask parents to ensure that their daughter has the right environment and time to complete her work. If she is spending too much or too little time on her homework, parents use the diary to communicate with teachers. Further extension work is always available.
In the Senior Department the quantity of homework increases gradually. In Years 10 and 11 the girls are expected to spend between 2 and 3 hours on homework a night. They are encouraged to become more self-reliant in their studies as a preparation for sixth form. In both years they are provided with a calendar of coursework deadlines in all their subjects so that they can plan their time accordingly.
