Nursery
PSM welcomes boys and girls age 3+. It is part of Peterborough & St Margaret’s School and is set in the same picturesque grounds. As well as having their own purpose-built facilities, the children benefit from the resources available in the rest of the school and the interaction with the older children. They are important members of our ‘family’ and involved wherever possible in the life of the School. The Nursery is open from 8.00 a.m. and the Nursery day begins at 8.30 a.m. with registration. Pupils are eligible for the Nursery Education Grant. The Nursery runs in conjunction with the whole school and is open from Monday to Friday during term time. Your child may stay at school, supervised, until 4.45 p.m. by prior arrangement.
Your child’s early years are crucial as they set the foundations for his or her future educational career and help to develop vital social skills. Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. At PSM Nursery we offer a stimulating, secure, happy environment with the right balance of learning and play to nurture and develop each child’s individual potential.
Getting to know us
Your child will be invited to a ‘taster session’ and you will have ample opportunity to view the Nursery at work and to assure yourself that your child will thrive here. For his/her general well-being, we recommend that your child is able to use the toilet unaided. It is also helpful if your child can use a knife and fork independently.
Early Learning Goals.
The high staff-pupil ratio enables our staff to give your child a great deal of individual attention. During the school day he/she follows the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum. This curriculum encompasses the following six Early Learning Goals, taught through topics: Personal, Social and Emotional Development Communication, Language and Literacy Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy Knowledge and Understanding of the World Physical Development Creative Development French, ballet and tap are available at an extra cost.
The curriculum is planned so that the children cover new work each year they are in the Nursery. As well as classroom based activities, the children are able to explore our outside woodland, use the infant playground for climbing, cycling, ball skills and other physical activities and go on outings. They also use the school hall for Physical Education and once a week they can borrow a book from the Library. Please contact us if you would like to visit the Nursery. We look forward to welcoming you and your son/daughter.
