Activities

There is a wide range of activities for the girls to enjoy and to develop their talents. Please see the sample list of extra-curricular activities.

Clubs and Competitions

We offer a comprehensive choice of clubs to girls of all ages, from science club to street dancing, from film club to folk guitar. These take place during break times as well as before and after school. The timetable of extra-curricular activities is changed regularly. Speech and Drama lessons are offered, leading to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art examinations. The girls study a range of instruments and many take part in a number of smaller ensembles as well an the choir and orchestra. Some clubs support the curriculum; others give girls the opportunity to try something new. We encourage everyone to participate. An activity started at school may well become a life-long hobby. Many of the girls enjoy taking part in the music and drama productions. Every year the drama club put on a Christmas musical and each spring a joint Music and Drama Festival is held in a local theatre, with the boys from Buckingham College and Buckingham Prep.

The girls take part in various competitions locally and nationally, as well as ‘in house’. For example, every year a hotly contested General Knowledge Quiz is held between boys in Years 5 and 6 at Buckingham College Prep School and girls in years 5 and 6 at Peterborough & St Margaret’s. Junior and senior girls take part in the UK Maths Challenge and some senior girls participate in the Independent Schools’ Association Essay Writing Competition. Girls represent the school annually at the national finals of the Independent Schools’ Association Swimming Gala.

Educational Visits

Girls of all ages take part in outings to enrich their learning. As well as regular theatre and orchestra trips, the girls visit art galleries, museums and places of worship to support their studies. The junior girls take part in ‘Junior Citizenship’ organised by the Metropolitan police. Residential study visits are arranged abroad for the senior girls to practise their foreign language skills. The Year 7 and 8 girls also have the opportunity to attend a netball coaching course in Holland biannually. The Year 8 girls stay at the Sayers Croft Field Centre for a week’s activities as part of the Geography curriculum. Biannually, Years 5 and 6 have an educational visit to Devon
